In light of my recent obsession with 80's covers, and music in general, I got two new-to-me CDs out of the library that prominently feature covers. As a matter of fact, Everclear's latest is entirely covers. I can't say that I'm in love with "Brown-Eyed Girl", but "Jenny (867-5309)" and "American Girl" are worth locating this random mix at your local library. "Rich Girl" and "The Boys are Back in Town" are also standouts. Some of the other songs include tv jingles, and a cover of the Go-Gos which show us that maybe Art Alexakis' lips should be sealed in some circumstances. Looking to see Everclear this year? Sarah McLachlan's mix is more ecclectic, yet seems more fitting for her vocal range. Covers of "Blackbird" by the Beatles, and Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time" just sound right coming from the
Canadian songbird. One of my friends will be particularly interested in a collaboration with Emmy Lou Harris. Be sure to check these out.....
